Winter Was Hard

Winter Was Hard was written for the 2025 Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where the festival orchestra gave the premiere under Jon Marshall. It is written for four guitars or a full guitar ensemble at an intermediate level, with some changes of meter.

In its first year the piece was taken up by the Guitar Foundation of America Community Guitar Orchestra, the Classical Guitar Retreat Guitar Orchestra in Scotland, the Interlochen Classical Guitar Intensive, the Florida Guitar Festival Orchestra and the Glendale Community College Guitar Ensembles.
